It's pricey, but the quality is there in both workmanship and materials. The shoe looks and feels like someone actually took the time to make it right. I wish the sole was a bit thicker, but even so, this is a quality boat shoe.

I have been wanting these shoes for a while and finally purchased them. The chalk suede feels like it is already broken in. The quality of this shoe is even better than some others I have worn, including Gucci. This shoe is a must have. Once you buy them, you realize how special these really are. (I purchased the chalk leather)

Just like the canvas boat shoe, this one is offered in "one width" only, which is actually more narrow than an average width would be. Construction and appearance seemed very compriable to the other far less expensive Sperry products, so I'm not sure they're worth the extreme price....perhaps they would outlast the less expensive shoe?! Regarding quality control, I was surprised to see two rather large, dark colored splotches on one of the shoes which appeared to be glue. Very noticeable on light-colored shoes! I've worn Sperry shoes for over thirty years and will continue to do so, but they need to start offering wider widths so the customer is not limited to purchasing just a few styles.

Bottom line, this is the identical boat shoe I first started buying in the late '60's and continued to purchase until production was moved abroad. I've purchased (and tried to like) other Sperry boat shoes since then including Gold Cup and Performance models but the desire to have a simple Made in Maine moccasin style boat shoe remained. Other brands that produce these in the U.S. have made their way into my closet over the years and all were good, but none were actually "the real deal" so on an emotional, psychological level, these just plain satisfy. I could line them up next to the versions offered by others (some of which are clearly produced in the identical facility in Maine) and there's no denying the materials, craftsmanship and style are very close, if not identical. But these Made in Maine Authentic Originals are, for lack of a better phrase, simply better. I'm very happy there are folks in Maine who care enough to still produce something which is Simply The Best. Thank you. You keep on making these, I'll keep on buying them. That's a promise.

Great Shoe! Good Value?

I was really excited to receive my new pair of shoes. I love products made in the U.S.A.; however, I question if these shoes are truly worth $300.00. I have another pair of Sperry Top-Siders that were not handcrafted in Maine. I have to say there isn't a great amount of difference in the construction. I compared them side-by-side and few differences exist from my amateur and untrained eyes. I really do love my new shoes but would have a hard time justifying the cost to purchase another pair in the future. Additionally, I think it would be nice for Sperry to produce some type of marketing literature to enclose with the handcrafted shoes from Maine that explain and differentiate this product from the mass-made ones in Indonesia. I think it would at least make customers feel like they were getting more for paying more.

I purchased Sperry Topsider Kuda Moc Boat Shoes years ago. The leather was durable and the shoes were Sperry Classics. When will you start making them again?

I have been purchasing lots of boat shoes over the years. Even Tommy Bahama but being from Maine and having been in FL since The 70's I could never duplicate the original topsider, even when I went to West Marine where they carry the Sperry line. So I finally went right to the sperry website and found the original. $300 is really out of sight for a boat shoe but I do love the shoes. Like the ones I wore in High school. So why not go for it!

Wow! I have desperately been searching for this shoe (in addition to about 100 of my friends)! Everyone had this shoe in the early '80s. It was the best shoe in the history of footwear! Bring it back and you will sell millions!!!

yes i agree. I went through at least 10 pairs in my life and I'm 58 now. I have been searching the US for years..I once found a pair it in a Key West shoe store back around 1999. if i had known they were never to be available again find i would have bought 10 pairs to last me a life time!!!! Most comfortable shoe ever made! VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!!! FOREVER!!!!!

those shoes are like slippers from day 1 , the leather is so soft and they are obviously a very different type of shoe than the machine made one , i am very glad to have gone for this investment

I have a collection of the original 70's and 80's boat shoes from the three major brands that made it including Sperry Top-Sider. Some still in boxes and unworn. All made in U.S.A. In comparison to the one's that are being made nowadays, I can say that there's nothing quite like the originals. From the materials used to the way they were constructed; the vintage ones are far much better. The best boat shoes made in those era.
