I couldn't believe they were still available! Bought my first pair 17 years ago in Santa Ana, CA and just bought my fourth 3 weeks ago. I do find some differences from the original one's, but thinking of getting a couple extra pairs for future use just in case they get discontinued for good. Plastic sole backing sure is missed.... I hope they bring back the gray ones! These shoes are OG!

The shoe is pretty much the same as i remember it in So Cal back in the late seventies. I love these shoes, but perhaps they could offer other colors and an arch insert as an update to the original.

I have had the "new" version of these shoes for about a year now...wearing them 12-15 times. Thought they would become broken in...not so...still like stiff plastic. Oh yeah...boat shoes? Not so much. On any wet surface...hold on... you WILL slip...no gripping power whatsoever on wet surface. Today I went to see on line comments...and saw there was a rare moveable insole....mine did not come with one...at least this explains why my feet hurt and why I have to use a third part sole insert. Come on Sperry...do some quality assurance even if if you are going to make a cheap version of this classic...by the way, I would pay the big price for the quality that use to be in this shoe..oh yeah...the pleather is cracking. Love the style...hate the poor quality of this model

I'm 62 and have worn the Sperry Captain's Oxford since I was in High School. I get great comments about the shoes unique appearance all the time. Most stores do not sell them any more so I have to get them on line and found them on the site.

I've been wearing these shoes for 30 yrs. I just bought another pair online, as I see they've been discontinued. I'm disappointed that they no longer have the Sperry logo stamped on the outside of each shoe. And, the leather thickness seems to be a little thinner. Otherwise they're fine.

I wore these almost exclusively while growing up during the 70s at the beach in OC. This was THE SHOE to have. I buy them now and always get complements on the style. But I can't recommend them as the soles are so soft that the heels last about 3 weeks. I have to buy 3 pairs at a time and this just isn't feasible. One quality oair at $240 would be a good deal. But that isn't the way the world (i.e. China) manufactures in general so I buy them 3 pairs at a time - who's smarter in the end? But I do resent that Sperry has contributed their little piece of the undoing of American culture by literally walking over it in their quantity, not quality shoes. Could the current manufacturers have invented such stylish shoes themselves? And what is the future when the American style have all been copied at low prices?
Please make me a high quality pair and just send me a bill for your cost plus a fair profit and quit sending shoes that as a previous reviewer said, you can feel stones through the 1/2 inch soles - no joking!

Have worn these shoes for almost 40 years. They used to be my favorite until I bought a new pair. They leather quality has gone way down and they fit narrow and small. The Originals were top of the line and worth the price. I hope they are brought back with the quality that made them "the best"!!! I'd buy them in a minute.

had a pair of these in the mid-80's. definitely the coolest west coast shoes to have. The leather quality has droppped dramitcally (thin, flimsy# and the sole is made from a cheaper less durable foam. I had to shoe-goo the soles to add durability and firmness. Also has a cheap last #you can feel rocks/pebbles protruding when you step on them)

I am very happy with this shoe. Twenty years ago when I lived in California this was the shoe to have. Comfort and style. Now living on the East coast everyone notices the shoes and make positive comments. You need to bring this shoe back into production.

I agree with the negitive quality comments, However, they still are the best all around shoe I own. It is sort of history in my family. My grandfater, my dad and now I wear them. Please keep making them, but a little better.

If I could find ten pair of size 10 1/2 I would buy them. I love this shoe. I have been wearing this shoe for 30+ years. I have purchased them two pairs at a time. every 18 months. I am down to my last pair. Now they are no where to be found. Help.

In the 70's So. California surf culture you only needed slaps, Vans slip ons and if you were really stylin' you had these original light green Sperrys. I must special order them these days, but get a surprising number of complements from strangers. Buy a pair right now and be THE DUDE.

bought a Pair after 15 years. Construction has changed a little, but stays true to original (two piece tongue, heel counter, man made insole). Very comfortable and very light. Will buy again. I would like to see West Marine carry in stock

As so many expressed in the posts prior to mine...these were the shoes in Orange County along the beaches. However, the quality was so much better back then...from the leather to the sole. The sole is the biggest disappointment. I purchased a pair of the 75th Anniversary Sperrys which had the same sole...it lasted just a few months. I will purchase again, if and when the quality returns.

I hope these are never discontinued! Good all-a-round shoe but sole seems to wear down quicker now than before, but that may be the added 30 lbs I but on since high school. :)

In my case I think it's a combination of my extra poundage and the shoe's less durable souls. I used to have a guy in Newport Beach that could resole these, now I just buy 3 pairs at a time. and we worry about platic watter bottles????

Unfortunately had to return as the fit was too narrow. I need a wide or extra wide, and these widths are not available in this model. I really miss my Captains Oxfords.
